Each summer, Button welcomes a new class of interns from a variety of different backgrounds, universities, and fields of study. This year, based out of Button’s NYC hub, our intern class spanned three different teams: Product, Marketing, and Legal & Business Operations.
From partnering on projects, exploring New York City, to fun intern events like a Broadway show and a Mets game, to experiencing Button’s unique RemotePlus culture, we had endless opportunities to learn and grow while collaborating and building new relationships.
Read on to hear each of our unique perspectives on what we learned, contributed, and experienced during our summer at Button!
Matthew Cyntje: Product Management
I began my internship at Button part time during the school year while still an active student at Columbia, coming from a background in private equity and software development at a big tech company. But I wanted my next step to match what actually excited me: navigating ambiguity and digging into how consumer behavior is shifting. That's what drew me to Button as a Product Management Intern, eager to learn a new field and get my hands dirty.
What made this experience so special was not only the value of the work or how much I learned, but the investment the entire product team and organization made in me. The advice, insights, guidance, and lessons I received were beyond anything I could have imagined before joining Button.
I also had the opportunity to witness the monumental growth and accomplishments of the business while contributing to accelerating that growth through my own work: leading a 0-to-1 initiative on how Button enters the agentic commerce space and where the opportunity lies, building a tool to measure brand representation in LLMs to create actionable insights, and working with the marketing team to improve on this front. I was trusted to lead this initiative with real freedom and ownership, and that trust is the thing I'm most grateful for.
A massive thank you to Philip Crandall, who not only gave me the platform to express myself but guided me throughout. He questioned me and my decision making constantly and pushed me down paths I would not have found on my own.
Thank you to the rest of the product team: Kelly, Elias, Mark, Matthieu, Stephanie, Keith, Kenzie, and Taylor. Every one of them gave me their time, their insights, and their pushes forward. They invested in my work as if it were their own, pointed me toward where to look next, and took real initiative in my development. That is not something I expected from a team with their own roadmaps to run, and it made all the difference.
Thank you to Hannah, Button's Head of Marketing, whose work my own aligned closely with. She always gave me her time and insights, and consistently showed me angles I had not considered before.
And thank you to Jonathan Kraft, Button's Head of Legal, and Julianna Tracy, Button's People Operations Coordinator, for making this internship smooth, inclusive, and genuinely fantastic.
Once again, thank you so much to the entire Button team.
Gigi Glass: Marketing
From the moment I stepped foot in Button’s NYC office, I felt incredibly welcomed by the entire Button team and was treated as a valued team member from day one, not just a summer intern. As a rising Boston College senior and a young professional hoping to build a career in marketing, I wanted to challenge myself while contributing to meaningful work in a fast-paced environment. My summer at Button allowed me to do exactly that.
One challenge I faced in past internships was getting up to speed. Something that stood out to me about onboarding at Button was the dedication to employee education. Rather than receiving a high-level overview of Button’s culture and product offerings, leaders across the company took the time to sit down with us and provide an in-depth understanding of their contributions to Button’s broader mission.
This foundation gave me the confidence to take on meaningful projects early into my internship. A go-to-market strategy session with Button's CRO, Lauren Newman, helped me better understand the different customer segments Button serves. Those insights directly informed my first project: building and optimizing a net-new AI website agent to align with the needs of different audiences and prospects.
Over the course of my internship, I worked on projects across different functions of the company. Whether I was documenting workflows to improve internal processes, creating CuratedBy pages for publisher partners, or executing thought leadership content at MARCC NYC, I was exposed to how marketing is integrated into all aspects of the business. This level of exposure, paired with the autonomy I was given, has provided invaluable experience as I prepare to begin my professional career.
One of the biggest highlights of my internship was getting to learn from my manager, Hannah Micley, Button’s VP of Marketing. Her leadership style helped foster an environment where I was encouraged to take ownership of meaningful projects and contribute with confidence. She not only helped me build a strong foundation in B2B marketing but also emboldened me to trust my instincts and step outside of my comfort zone.
As this summer comes to an end, I can confidently say that getting to work alongside such motivated and supportive people has made this the most rewarding and formative internship of my career so far. I leave with not only a deeper understanding of marketing's cross-functional nature, but also a strong appreciation for the meaningful work that can be accomplished when talented people collaborate toward a shared goal.
I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to spend my summer at Button. Thank you to everyone who contributed to such a meaningful experience!
Raina Kella: Legal & Business Operations
I came to Button from a pre-law background at the University of Michigan, questioning if law was still the path I wanted to pursue. I'm a Public Policy major focused on tech and innovation policy, and I came into my summer as a Legal and Business Operations Intern curious whether that interest could translate into something more concrete.
Button gave me exactly that answer. I spent my summer working on two main projects: rebuilding the process Button uses to track and manage contract renewals with partners, and creating a company-wide resource that made complex contractual terms more accessible and actionable for our commercial team. Put simply, I reviewed hundreds of legal agreements, identified the terms most relevant to the business, and translated that information into practical tools the team could use to make faster, more informed decisions. The experience gave me a front-row seat to how legal language intersects with Finance, Data, and Product, and how a single contract term can shape decisions across an entire company. It confirmed something I had only guessed at in school: there is real, tangible work at the intersection of law and technology, and I want to be part of it.
None of this would have meant as much without the mentors I worked alongside. Jonathan Kraft, Button’s Head of Legal, introduced meaningful opportunities that exist out of law school and helped me see the range of ways a law degree can be used in tech, well beyond the paths I'd assumed were the only options. Juliana Tracy, Button’s People Operations Coordinator, was a constant source of support whenever I needed advice at Button and I grew genuinely close to her over the summer. Daniel Ollgaard, Button’s Senior Director of Business & Revenue Operations, who comes from a consulting background, showed me how that lens applies to the work Button does day to day, and taught me to prioritize execution over iteration, a lesson that stuck with me.
Beyond my own projects, the conversations I had with people across product, finance, and data analytics were some of the most valuable parts of my summer, professionally and personally. I am so thankful to have worked alongside so many intelligent, motivated, and brilliant people who not only allowed me but encouraged me to learn as much as possible. I'm leaving Button with a much clearer sense of where I want to head next, and a lot of gratitude for everyone who helped get me there.
As highlighted above, each of our internship experiences at Button was unique, but one thing remained consistent: the people. Regardless of which team we were on, we were all trusted with meaningful work, supported by dedicated mentors, and empowered to thrive in an environment where the people around us genuinely cared about our growth.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Button who helped make this summer so memorable and cannot wait to see what the future holds!
